But still a great camera from Anton Tobias After looking at the specs of the new HDR-HC9, I noticed that the Sony HDR-HC7 (last year model) was almost identical to Sony's latest MiniDV technology. I started digging in the specs department for awhile on both Sony's website and here on Amazon. I could identify the following differences between the two: - The Sony HDR-HD9 on Amazon specs that are upgraded to a 2.0 USB connector leaving behind the old 1.1 design, but the specs sheet on the site Sony seems to dispute this, claiming the HDR-HC9 is still plagued by old technology. I have rarely seen any kind of video camera for pictures, I have a 512 MB Memory Stick installed on my device for "just in case" now we all have inside Even in the rare case, I snap a couple experimental stills during the holidays, I always use a card reader to transfer images to my PC, not USB interface - The included software is upgraded apparently. Sony HDR-HC9 comes with Picture Motion Browser version 2.0.17 - If you have still images (and a lot of them ... I think many of them) really cares about the Sony HDR-HC9 can now with an 8 GB memory Stick to the HDR-HC7's 4GB. - The general color of the new HC9 is black (which I agree with the space-age looking silver prefer HC7) but this is just a consumer preference, not a reason to upgrade. - It has been published on other websites that the HDR-HC9's manual focus on the HC7 has been improved. I've tried my best to come up with something more, but honestly, that's all I could find. This camcorder is basically the HDR-HC7 with a new coat of paint and some minor modifications. Not to say it's a bad camera ... far from it. I shoot exclusively with Sony camcorders and this is by far the best I've ever owned, if you do not have the HDR-HC7 are deceived into modernization. When some small differences noted above spec, which you already own the new HDR-HC9 least 8 GB of storage capacity and the onyx color scheme. Compare the specifications for you if you need something that distinguishes between these two models are found, please list them in the comments below this report. I searched for 30 minutes and it's the best I could do. As for the performance of the device itself ... what can I say? This is a Sony high-end. If you shoot the quality of HD movies you want, but do not break your bank account is the Sony HDR-HC9 or HDR-HC7 is probably the right person for most households of people. I also prefer to shoot with your camcorder because of the MiniDV tapes it uses, as for all other media platforms such as DVD, hard drives, flash memory, unlike ... etc.. This format (MiniDV) is an industry standard and if you plan to edit your videos with software (Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas Studio) this is the only way to get DVDs and hard camcorders running requires a lot of MPEG-2 video when the video is transferred to the computer and edit files on the quality of video is compressed again. Finally, when you burn the finished movie to DVD the files are broken again, leaving the pixel images and the grotesque ... someone that you ran through a garbage disposal. Something to think about. Product Highlights: - MiniDV (my form of choice) - HDMI circuit (for a quick plug-n-slide of your movies in beautiful high definition) - Switchable HDV / DV format (if you do not have to shoot in HD) - Professional quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T - widescreen - Compact (for an HD camera, this is very useful) product down-points: - I really wish Sony gave us a 25x optical zoom ... I who made this little guy on top in terms of video cameras in this price range - The touch screen interface is a little uncomfortable (sometimes feels like rats in a maze trying to find a
