Now you can quickly get an idea what's on the disc. Playlist With the Playlist function, you can select the scenes you want in the order you want internally at the camera level. Program your favorite scenes, in the order you like for playback or for archiving to DVD. Just press the DIRECT BACK UP button, and data that has not yet been backed up can be transferred to a PC automatically.

Lee After much research and going back and forth with a non-HD Sony Handycam, we got this camera last week and so far it has really made a difference when viewing videos on our 50" HD TV screen on HDMI. It is pretty user friendly (although I found the Sony Handycam more user friendly). If you're in the market for an HD (Hi-Def) camcorder, this is the value winner. The Everio HD takes decent stills, but definitely takes a backseat to our Canon point & shoot. On that note, our Canon 800IS P&S takes comparable quality videos to the Everio when you see them on a computer (you're just limited to 1.5 min. clips if it's holding pictures too). The clarity (esp. outside) is excellent. The only downside is that you need a steady hand to operate b/c the "anti-shake" technology needs a little work. I suppose you win on picture quality on the flipside... unless you're willing to shell out another $300 for more steady images on top of picture sharpness. If you get an HD camera, be prepared to get a bigger battery b/c it sucks up power more quickly than a regular videocam. I got this mainly to record our 1 year old, beginning with her birthday party coming up. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Exellent little camera!!! By Debra Foote I had to buy a camera for my video production class at college. My teacher told us we had to get a DV camera, but i previously have had difficulty with tape so that was my last choice. I put hours of research in to find a tape alternative that worked with Final cut pro and Adobe Premiere Pro. This is that alternative. It shoot great looking HD video and is an ease to edit using those two programs. The still images on it is nothing to write home about, but come on lets be serious. You don't buy a camcorder to take stills, you buy a camcorder to record videos. After my class was over my teacher changed his requirements in a camera after seeing the quality of video i shot with it. (***please note it works with Final Cut Pro 6, 7, and Final Cut Express 4 ONLY***) (***please note it works with iMovie '08 and '09 ONLY***) (***please note it works with Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, CS5, Adobe Premiere Elements 7 and 8 ONLY***) I included which versions support this cameras AVCHD format. It will save you hours in order to figure it out. This review is written on 5/25/2010 so i would think that products after this review will support AVCHD 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Impressed with the quality By CJC I recently bought this camcorder to record a friend's wedding and was impressed with the quality of this little camcorder. It is not heavy and fairly easy to use. Indoor recording is okay. I used a high LED light in order to record decently, but outdoors it looks very crisp. One huge downfall for me is the battery life. If you make this purchase, you most definitely want to also buy an extra charger and battery. The camcorder sucked the life out of my battery and I spent most of my time standing next to an outlet in order to record the wedding, which made it difficult to move around freely. I love the HDMI port and the x.V.Color option as well. **Mac USERS** If you have a Mac, you will have some issues downloading to your computer. With most JVCs I have owned, they are not very Mac friendly. I used a Wondershare Video Converter to download all my video clips from the camcorder to my Mac (I had to download the converter from the internet for about $21 but it's worth having). So please be advised about that IF you are a Mac user. Otherwise, a great camcorder for the price. See all 5 customer reviews...

Printing professional quality photos from home has become a reality, thanks to easy-to-use photo printers like the Canon PIXMA ip5000. By combining five-color printing and a 1,856-nozzle print head that's capable of delivering superfine 1-picoliter ink droplets (up to 22 million droplets per inch), the ip5000 delivers stunningly accurate prints that should leave professional photo labs a little worried. Color resolution is as high as 9,600 x 2,400 dpi, with black-and-white resolution of up to 600 x 600 dpi. Print speeds are as high as 25 ppm in black, 17 ppm in color, while a borderless 4-by-6-inch photo can take as little as 36 seconds. The same drive system responsible for the ip5000's improved print speeds also results in a low 34 dB(A) noise level. (All reported speeds are maximums. Actual speeds will vary.) Precision Color Distribution Technology Unlike other systems, nozzle configuration in Bubble Jet printers is simple, so it is easier to make them smaller and more dense. Using its superior semiconductor manufacturing technology, Canon has succeeded in developing an ultrahigh-precision, multinozzle print head. The problem of color inconsistency has been solved by positioning a mirror-image line of 128 nozzles (600 dpi pitch for each color) at a half-pitch offset from the existing line. This configuration also provides the added advantage of enabling high-resolution printing at 1,200 dpi. Easy-PhotoPrint v3.0 While most photo-editing software applications will brighten the entire image, Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0 accurately detects the subject's face and adjusts the skin to the optimum tone. Brighten dark faces caused by bright backgrounds. Choose from one-click automatic to correct the entire image all at once, or manual to correct just a selected area. Before After Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0 also lets you select and print any image on your PC, perfectly trim images, correct images using lab-quality retouching features, correct red-eye, smooth facial lines and skin tone, sharpen faces, remove blemishes, and print in a variety of sizes and layouts. Along with a wide variety of plain and photo papers, the ip5000 also accepts envelopes and transparencies. The dual paper path allows you to print two-sided documents or simply store photo papers in one tray and plain paper in the other. This printer can connect directly to select digital cameras. Learn more about PictBridge. With its easy-to-use USB port, hooking up the printer to your computer is a snap, while a direct print port allows you to print directly from a PictBridge-compatible digital camera or DV camcorder, with or without your computer. The software bundle includes Easy-PhotoPrint and PhotoStitch. Compatible with both PC and Mac operating systems, the ip5000 comes backed with a one-year limited warranty on both parts and labor. What's in the Box PIXMA iP5000 photo printer, print head and ink tanks (BCI-3eBK black, BCI-6BK black, BCI-6C cyan, BCI-6M magenta, BCI-6Y yellow), power cord, easy setup instructions, documentation kit (Quick Start Guide, Registration Card), Setup Software and User's Guide on CD-ROM, Canon Photo Paper Pro for Borderless Printing (4-by-6 sample pack); USB cable not included This powerhouse printer combines next-generation print head technology with advanced five-color printing, for fast, high-definition photos. Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a high performance 1,856-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as 1 picoliter. Up to 22 million droplets are placed per square inch, setting a new standard for photographic detail. The result is an amazing resolution of up to 9,600 x 2,400 color dpi; for detail and clarity unmatched by comparable printers. Plus, the ContrastPLUS 5-color ink system-with four dye-based inks plus a pigment-based black ink produces true-life photos, along with laser-quality text. Your output will simply amaze you. The Pixma iP5000 Photo Printer has the speed to match its exceptional quality. It can produce up to 25 ppm in black and up to 17 ppm in color; and a beautiful 4-by-6-inch borderless print takes only 36 seconds. It also features a new drive system that not only improves speed but also reduces noise. Want to simplify your photo printing? Simply connect any PictBridge-compatible digital camera or DV camcorder, and print. It's that fast and easy! To reduce printing costs, this unique printer has five individual ink tanks that let you replace only the color that runs out, rather than an entire cartridge containing several unused ink colors. Plus, a unique low-ink sensor alerts you when ink levels are low, so you can just drop in a new tank as needed.

By Thomas Jhou I originally bought the Epson R200 because it was cheaper, but that printer guzzled ink like an SUV. So, I exchanged it for this printer, whose photos are just as good as the Epson (on glossy paper), with about 1/5 the ink costs. In the one year I had this printer (resulting in thousands of prints) the cheaper ink costs paid for themselves many times over. One downside to the Canon is a tendency towards yellow tints (but you can adjust this). Also, the head-cleaning mechanism failed after a year of heavy use. By then I'd made thousands of prints, so I wasn't too upset, and in fact replaced the printer with an identical model. The Pixma 5000's prints look stunningly great on glossy photo paper. They actually look better than the photo labs I've used, in my opinion. Contrast and color are great. Most 4-ink printers (as opposed to the 6-ink or 8-ink printers) suffer from "dithering", i.e. they give you tiny little dots instead of smooth colors, but the Canon has almost no visible dithering. The Canon's colors tend to be slightly yellow, but this can be adjusted in the print settings. In photo quality, the Pixma 5000 beat every other 4-color Canon or Epson printer at my local store. Epson's "Durabright" printers pale in comparison, as do Canon's various all-in-one copier/scanner/printers. However, photos on plain paper do not look good, and lack contrast and crispness. This is actually a problem with most inkjet printers, though the Epson R200 seems to do a better job with plain paper than the Canon, mainly because its black inks are somewhat darker. Printing on matte paper is also tricky - midtones come out too dark, so photos look dull and muddy unless you lighten the midtones in Photoshop. The Pixma's small 1 picoliter droplets really help with text, which is crisper and sharper than the Epson R200. Text pages also print quite fast. Best of all, the Canon is unusually efficient with ink. I got an impressive number of photos (over 250 glossy 4x6's) with each color cartridge, and almost 300 photos with the black cartridge. The Epson only gave me 50-60 photos per cartridge set. Not only do the Canon cartridges last longer, they are cheaper, and there are only 4 instead of 6 to buy. By my estimate, Canon ink costs 5-7 times less per page than Epson. In the long run this is a HUGE difference, and more than makes up for the slightly higher cost of the printer itself. I have only one major gripe: After about 6 months of use, the printer's self-cleaning mechanism failed. This caused black streaks on the edge of prints. Cleaning the print head would help temporarily, but the streaks would return soon. After one year of heavy use, I had to replace the printer. But I definitely got my money's worth, and then some. Overall, this is still one of the best inkjet printers I've ever seen, combining high quality, low maintenance costs, and versatility with text and graphics. 82 of 87 people found the following review helpful. Utterly amazing! By Sportynyc Photos printed on photo paper would be hard to distinguish between those that came from a lab. Text quality is better than the older s and i series printers, but not quite laser quality on plain paper. Works best with Canon's photo paper, but have had pretty good results with other glossy paper like, sepom (not as glossy but waterproof!) and red river paper. 32 of 32 people found the following review helpful. Budget-friendly operating costs By Nathaniel C. Moffat With all of the specifications to compare (e.g. pages per minute, dots per inch, number of different color cartridges), it is easy to forget cost of ownership. A year from now, that same stack of vacation and holiday pictures could cost you hundreds of dollars more with one brand compared to another. Drop for drop, printer ink is probably the most expensive liquid you'll ever buy, and all printer companies want

I bought the MPVR at Target for $128.77 (the lowest price I found). There were only 2 left, so I took that as a good sign. After the initial charge, which took less than the four hours stated in the manual, I was ready to play. I took a few pictures inside my house in low-light conditions, both at 1 and 3 megapixel resolution. I also shot a short video just so I could test it. The following morning I shot another video outside (it was a beautiful day with plenty of sun), and I took pictures in all the available resolutions: VGA, 1, 3, and 6MP. Here's what I think: For under $150 you get a digital still camera, digital camcorder, MP3 player, voice recorder, and TV-DVD recorder. It's an amazing deal. -The camera: While it does tout the camera as being able to take pictures at 6MP resolution, the actual sensor is for 3MP. I was a little thrown off by this, but if you research, you'll find that more megapixels doesn't necessarily mean better quality, and this little camera is a perfect example. The way it achieves the 6MP resolution is by taking them at 3MP and adding in the extra pixels by the use of an algorithm (similar to what happens when you enlarge a picture using any photo-editing software) before the JPEG encoding, so the results are good. The images are crisp and vibrant. The get a little fuzzy when you take them at full zoom (4x optical), but that's nothing a good tripod can't fix. I currently have the resolution set at VGA because it's the perfect size for email attachments. -The camcorder: The first video I shot was indoors, at night-time, without engaging the night mode, and in low light. The image was good but a little fuzzy. The one I shot outdoors was beautiful. The colors were brilliant, and there was very little noise. Also the microphone is really good, and you can adjust the volume settings. You can also zoom in and out while recording video. There are two settings for video: VGA, and the lower-quality less-space consuming QVGA. All video is encoded in MPEG4 so it easily plays on your computer. -MP3 player: When you connect the camera to your computer, you'll find an MP3 folder. Just drag and drop your songs there and you're set. The speaker on the camera is pretty good, but it distorts a little if you have it on too loud. The included ear-buds are pretty good, although I'm sure it would sound much better with high-end Bose. You can't fast-forward or rewind a song, but how often do you really do that? -Voice recorder and TV-DVD recorder: I haven't used either of these functions yet, but from the sound I heard in the videos, I can probably say the voice recorder is good too. For TV-DVD recording, the camera comes with AV cables so it's just a matter of connecting the camera and hitting record. A 2GB SD card will hold about 2 hours of video. The MPVR is amazing. It blew me away. And the size is fantastic. It comes with a 2.4" swivel screen, slim rechargeable battery and charger, AV-out/USB combo cable, AV-in cable, and wrist strap. It comes with an internal 16MB flash memory, and a SD/MMC slot accepting cards of up to 2GB. The only draw back that I could find is that the lens is not covered and it does not include a cap. So just be careful not to scratch it. When I first bought the camera I wasn't sure if I was going to keep it, but now that I've fallen in love with it I bought a small compact camera case (BestBuy has good, cheap ones) and a 256MB Kingston SD card. At the manufacturer's website, www.aiptek.com, you'll find extra accessories such as an AC adapter for the camera, extra batteries, tripods, and a wireless remote. This camera does seem too good to be true, but I can assure you, you won't be disappointed. 86 of 90 people found the following review helpful. Jaw Dropping Quality for it's size + HUGE WOW Factor By Krishna Polina I happened to own Canon HV20 Camcorder briefly until I saw this camcorder with my friend. I loved everything about HV20 except it's cheap(call it ugly) design and build quality. Also, I didn't like the concept of tape anymore after having over 30+ MiniDVs that are collecting dust. I've owned a MiniDV Camcorder now for over 8 years and it still works great. But, I could never transfer 30+ tapes I have taken so far to any media except the first one. Why? Tape based vs Flash Media The DV Tape capture is a nightmare process. Takes forever to capture to PC, edit and burn DVD. With flash media, I can delete any scene I don't like right on camcorder and later don't have to deal with it while editing. Also, when I shoot silent scenes (which is very rare), I can hear the tape motor sound. I noticed this even on the new Canon HV20. Also, sometimes we want to delete some scenes we recorded earlier on the tape. That is practically useless on tape as that space on tape is wasted. With flash memory, you delete a scene and the memory available increases right away. Some reviewers say Flash memory is expensive. While true it can't be too expensive for someone who sheds 1K on a camcorder. Moreover, their prices are falling faster than the real-estate prices in Northern Virginia. You can get couple of 4GBs and one Portable Storage Device(PSD) like WOLVERINE DATA FlashPac 7-in-1 Memory Card Reader and 60 GB Storage Device 7060 and you are done with buying any more flash memory. PSD can also be used as a backup device for all your photo and video collection if can buy HyperDrive Space, 160 GB Memory Card Backup Storage Device for 18 Types of Memory Cards. Now to the video quality: I wasn't expecting CX7 to be as good as HV20 because of its miniature size. But, I was thrilled to see both look exactly the same. At least to my eyes when I blew the picture in my Home Theater with 12 feet wide screen played from Panasonic AX100U Front Projector. I played CX7 by inserting the memory stick in my PS3. I tested some shots taken in dark conditions and in bright outdoors. Both are great camcorders. I saw no noise in either of them with basic indoor lighting from recessed lights. I also shot with my Old Mini DV Camcorder in Standard format and it looked terrible on 12 foot screen as expected. I felt it was worth the upgrade after comparing all three. Audio: CX7 shines here. It was able to create a surround sound effect when a flight flew above me when I was shooting. That made the recording feel more realistic. Also, CX7 definitely has the advantage of not having a motor running close to it like the tape based models have. The digital pictures are also of decent quality. I would say as good as any compact 4 to 5+ MP cameras out there. Sony did a wonderful job with the design of this camcorder and it's great they didn't skip on active shoe that can be used to attach external video light/flash and microphone. What should Sony do to their next model? I think they can increase the camcorder size slightly and add a viewfinder. By Paul Ewert I just got back from my local electronics store which, to my surprise, had the GS35 in stock and on sale. I was very pleased with the ease of use and accuracy of the thumbstick control. Though, the menu button was a bit out of reach for my thumb thus requiring me to use my other hand to push it. The built-in LED lights help shed some light on dark situations, but I noticed an even greater benefit from the increase in gain when the light was switched on. The lens used on this camera is out-of-sight! Not only does it offer high telephoto optical zoom, it offers what few other camcorders out there have: built-in wideangle. The lens is 1.9-57mm which equates roughly to a 35mm equivalent of 35-1040mm. So, go ahead, shoot video indoors and get the whole group in the shot at once! 46 of 47 people found the following review helpful. Too great for words!!! By Emy I was a little worried about purchasing this camera, the reviews on all the sites i checked were all 5 stars (nothing below that) but i'd never used anything other than cannon and minolta. I wont say I know everything about camcorders/cameras but I know enough to know a good one compared to a bad one, and this is a GREAT camcorder/camera. I have only had it about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks, but I've so much videos that turned out crisp and clear, with great sound. I love the light for low light shots, although I dont take many in the dark, it's still a nice feature. I love that you can take video as well as use a memory card to take photos, thats a great option. I Highly recommend this camcorder/camera to anyone who wants a great zoom, with great features....you'll love this camera, I know I do!!! 38 of 40 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful Camera By Alycia Carnley I recently purchased this camera due to my husband being deployed, I wanted something inexpensive that I could use as a camera to take still pictures and for a web cam to talk to my husband over seas. This camera can do all that and then some. The LCD is great for taking self portraits and has a bright enough screen that even in the sun light you can still see the picture. Plus it is small enough that I can take it with me were ever I go. This shipping through amazon is great, I live in Alaska and it only took about a week to get it up here. I would give Panasonic and Amazon 10 stars if I could. I would definetly recommend this to anyone looking for a great camera at a low cost. See all 27 customer reviews...

Schmitt The Good: -Outstanding output quality for the price -Good speed -Automatic Duplex printing -Lightweight drivers/software -Inexpensive ink The Bad: Aside from a slightly cheap asthetic feel, I can't find a thing. And for such a low price, it's to be expected. Other manufactures might have shnazzier printers at the same price point, but keep in mind most other manufacturers don't sell printers, they sell ink, so you pay for it in the long run. Overall I am extremely satisfied with this printer. Coming from an IP4000, I had high expectations, and this did not dissapoint. I have owned every major brand of printers (HP, Epson), and Canon is absolutely where it's at. Cartridges are much more affordable, you aren't forced to install 400mb of junk that loads 5 processes at windows startup (HP), and the attention to detail is great (i.e., you can program the printer to shutoff after X minutes of being idle). Do yourself a favor and buy a Canon. 167 of 179 people found the following review helpful. Maintains its championship title. By Samuel Chell I ordered this 4300 for the office on the basis of great results with its predecessor, the 4200, at home. If you're new to the Pixma line, expect the machine to function flawlessly if not beyond expectations, though at a slightly higher cost in ink than other printers. (Always keep a spare of each of the 5 colors on hand, and forget about finding clones for this model or cheaper ink prices than those posted on Amazon.) The iP4300 is a slight upgrade of the extremely popular iP4200 (see reviews of that machine). If you print a lot of photos, you'll notice a 40% increase in the rate of processing. If you want a preview monitor on your printer, you'll find it available on the higher-numbered, costlier Canon Pixmas (the ip6600 is the newest; the price of the ip6000 is currently attractive, but the machine is two years old). Finally, I wouldn't discount the duplex printing feature, retained on the 4300. It has saved me not only paper but numerous trips to the copy machine. Advantage of the iP4300 over the 4200: Significantly faster printing of color copy because of added ink jets. Disadvantage of IP4300: Slightly wider and deeper than the 4200, taking up more desk space. (Height and weight are the same.) Bottom line: Still the best and most dependable all-around printer (not just photos) for home or office in this price range, at least until HP or Epson (I've previously owned both) return to form. If you need a clincher, it's the duplex printing. 33 of 33 people found the following review helpful. Great Printer & great price By Ron I was using an HP Photosmart 7260 which made very good photo prints. It used 6 color photo ink but I had to change one cartridge to pigment ink for text. I bought the IP4300 and here are the differences: **It uses separtate ink cartridges but uses 4 colors for photos. **The print quality is equal or better than the HP (but close). **The IP4300 is quiet and 2 - 3 times faster. **The print driver has both auto and manual modes so you can tweak the print. **It has two paper paths. I put photo paper in the back feeder and plain paper in the front cassett. Located below the pull out catch tray. **I can set the default to plain paper and select photo settings when needed. The printer will automatically use the back paper feed. **This printer has automatic head alignment and it works great. **You can turn on a power save mode to have it shut off if not used after some time (I chose 30 minutes). It will automatically turn on when printing. **All 5 cartridges are installed. Pigment black produces excellant text. **I have seen some reviews where itwas stated that the prints have a red tint. I got the same thing at first. If you are not using Canon paper, start with this setting: Select paper "Photo Paper Pro" and High Print Quality. This removed my red tint (I use

Weber After testing the Canon TX-1, this has been my experience: PHOTO QUALITY: Excellent. Canon wisely uses in-camera noise reduction (blurring) lightly and preserves sharp detail. On close magnification, single pixel detail is present, which the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 that I compared blurred details into a gradient. Color saturation and contrast are excellent. Focus is fast and accurate. Overall, superb qualtiy still pictures. VIDEO QUALITY: Very good. Quality is roughly midway between DV and a dedicated HD camcorder. Though criticized by some for their large file sizes, Canon's Motion JPEG compression codec yield video that is of excellent contrast, and good color saturation. I took video samples and re-compressed them using Canon's codec (included with their camera's software) and other codecs including MPEG2, QuickTime, and multiple other codecs from Adobe Premiere, and found that the Canon motion-JPEG, though theoretically not as efficient a compression scheme, ended up with the best quality video, while other codecs of similar file size were more washed out. Another advantage of this compression scheme is that you can get good quality frame captures, as each frame is compressed individually. It's not perfect: unlike my dedicated HD camcorder, the TX-1's video has a vague "shimmering" effect, from the JPEG compression varying from frame to frame. Also, with moving objects, the motion isn't quite as fluid with as with my dedicated HD camcorder. But for a combination still/video platform, the video of the TX-1 is remarkably good. File sizes are large, but they will be with any high quality video. ERGONOMICS: In my medium to small hands, the camera is easy to hold. Some reviewers complained that they needed to use their left hand to stabilize the camera, but I always hold cameras with two hands. This one can be held with one, but any camera will yield less blurry pictures if held with two hands. If you have large fingers, you may find this camera too small. CONVENIENCE: The LCD folds into the camera, and there is no optical viewfinder, so when the camera is closed, there is no vulnerable glass to scratch up on any side. And it is so tiny that you can throw it in a pocket or bag or purse and pull it out for an unexpected spontaneous shot. FLASH: I was worried that the flash would be too under-powered. It is a weak flash. Unexpectedly, this turned out to be a good thing. I've noticed with past cameras that indoor flash pictures screamed "FLASH!" and were bright with a thin dark shadow next to foreground objects from the flash. This weaker flash ironically ends up making more natural shots as it doesn't saturate the shot and some existing light adds to make a more pleasing picture. The flash is too weak to brightly light up a large dim room that you are shooting from a long distance, or if you zoom in under dim conditions. ZOOM: 10X zoom is really powerful; I can zoom in a lot more than I expected. The excellent image stabilization allows these zoomed in shots to not be blurred from camera motion. LOW LIGHT: Like virtually all compact cameras today, the tiny CCD does not perform well in very low light shots without flash. The TX-1 is no exception. Fuji cameras are known for better performance in low light, but currently don't have optical image stabilization. The image stabilization in the TX-1 (and other cameras with this feature) help a lot because you can use much longer shutter speeds and make up for the small CCD. PLAYBACK: It has been fun for me to plug the camera into my widescreen TV and watch the photos and video in a combined slide show. That format is fun for the family and allows everyone to enjoy the memories without having to sit by a computer monitor or wait for prints. PROBLEMS: The only thing I've not enjoyed is that the small LCD makes it harder to see detail in composing a

Manufacturer Description Capture high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) video to a MiniDV cassette with the HDR-HC5 high-definition camcorder. Record every detail of every moment with the 10x optical/80x digital zoom and Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens. However, you’ll be capturing more than just video with the 4.0 megapixel still image feature. Snap spectacular 2.3 megapixel photos while filming in dual record mode. The HDR-HC5 even slows down the audio. Get it all and get it in high definition with this amazing camcorder. HDR-HC5 Highlights 2.1-megapixel ClearVid CMOS sensor The 1/3-inch ClearVid CMOS sensor provides stunning detail and clarity with exceptional video (1080 lines of resolution in HD Mode or 530 lines of horizontal resolution in SD Mode) and 4 MP still image performance. Unlike traditional CCD imagers, CMOS sensors require less power and provide better battery performance. Switchable HD/DV format recording The HDR-HC5 is capable of recording and playing back both High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD) video recorded on a standard MiniDV cassette. Real-Time HD Codec engine Sony developed a Real Time MPEG Encode/Decode system with reduced energy consumption and compact size to fit inside a personal camcorder. This engine provides efficient MPEG2 compression, and recording and playback of clear HD images at the same bit rate of the DV format, so that high-definition video can be recorded on the same MiniDV cassettes as are used for SD recording. x.v. Color x.v.Color can capture or display nearly twice as many (1.8x) viewable colors than currently possible. This provides a more accurate and vivid color range, for a more natural, lifelike overall experience. 10x optical/80x digital zoom The optical zoom helps to bring the action close up from far away. In addition, the Digital Zoom Interpolation means that extreme digital zooming is clearer, with less distortion than previous types of digital zoom. Professional-quality Carl Zeiss Vario- Sonnar T* lens Carl Zeiss lenses have an advanced optical multi-layer coating that offers less glare and flare with increased contrast. This results in vivid image brilliance, true-to-life color saturation and perfectg renditions of subtle tones. The additional T* coating on the lens further reduces unwanted glare and flare. 2.7-inch widescren hybrid touch-panel Clear Photo LCD Plus display The 2.7-inch 16:9 LCD screen provides excellent viewing clarity with improved resolution. The 211K pixel LCD screen rotates up to 270 degrees for multiple viewing angles providing sharp, detailed images for monitoring or playback, and the widescreen format makes shooting in 16:9 mode and composing shots even easier. Smooth slow record By increasing the record rate from 60 fields per second (fps) to 240 fps for 3 seconds allowing you to capture 3 seconds of fast motion and play the video back in 12 seconds. This is great for analyzing a golf swing or a viewing a bird in flight. In addition, record an audio track to narrate what is being seen in the video. Field I am writing this as someone who is not a true videophile, but who nonetheless pays some critical attention to picture quality and ease of use. I have no interest in making any videos other than reasonable quality family videos. I have owned a SD miniDV camera for 7 years before buying this one. The picture quality was observed on a Sony SXRD 60" HDTV using component cables. I didn't have the HDMI cable with the mini connector to try out a digital connection. I bought this camera last week and tried it out during a Memorial Day trip with the family. The picture quality is extremely good. It's not quite as good as a top-notch HD feed (such as Discovery HD), but appears to me to be equal to most HD channels we receive over Comcast cable. Another poster said the quality is not much better than DVD, but for me this is clearly not the case--it's *much* better than DVD. Although in some detailed reviews online there are still images showing interlace artifacts, in viewing running video I have been unable to notice any effects of interlacing at all, even in fast-moving objects. Pans work well, with no objectionable artifacts or lagging. For outdoor scenes the picture is really stunning. Indoors at night, with ordinary light levels, the picture is not as good, with a graininess that is especially apparent on objects with a smooth texture, such as painted walls. Still, the picture is acceptable to me. The camera has lots of features, mostly accessable from its touchscreen display. However, you can set the camera in "easy" mode, which selects a reasonable set of default settings. I confess that's the only mode I used, and the results were impressive. As I learn more about the camera I may fiddle with more advanced settings. The camera can also take decent still photos, not up to par with a good digital camera but perfectly acceptable for when you don't want to lug around a separate camera. One cute feature is that it's possible to take still pictures in 16:9 mode while filming. This doesn't interrupt the filming, and the pictures are stored on the Memory Stick. Up to three such pictures can be taken in any filming sequence (from start to stop). [Added 6/4/07] I have used the still camera some more. I compared the 16:9 pictures taken in video camera mode to those taken in the standard 4:3 camera mode, and I couldn't see any significant differences in quality (other than the 16:9 being wider). This in spite of the fact that Sony states the 16:9 mode pictures have an "effective resolution" of 2.3 Mpixels while those in 4:3 have a resolution of 4.0 Mpixels. (Note that, as far as I can tell, the camera doesn't actually have a 4 MP sensor, but uses some sort of interpolation to get 4 MP.) I also compared these pictures to ones taken with my 2001-vintage Canon Powershot digital camera; those from the Sony HDR-HC5 were clearly better. HOWEVER, the low-light capabilities of the Sony still camera modes is very poor, much worse than its low-light video capabilities. In ordinary indoor lighting the pictures are very grainy. Even in outdoor shots, faces that are in shade have a certain graininess. So in good light the stills are fine, but in low light they're not very good. [End] The battery life was OK. I estimate I got an hour or so from the included battery. This was enough for shooting perhaps 30 minutes of video under real world conditions. I was able to read in and edit the video using iMovie HD on my Mac. I couldn't send it back to tape because of a FireWire problem with my computer, but I assume it would look just as good as the original. Overall, I can heartily recommend this camera to anyone who cares about picture quality, but is not an advanced videographer needing special features. For instance, there have been some complaints about the lack of a manual focussing ring, but in my daily use (and my 7 years with

Amazon Sales Rank: #14212 in Camera & Photo Brand: Panasonic Model: AG-HPX170 Released on: 2009-11-30 Dimensions: 4.19 pounds Display size: 3.5 Full production quality, 4:2:2 1080/ 720/ SD P2HD Hand-Held camcorder Includes a Leica Dicomar 13x lens (2) P2 Card Slots for Video & (1) SD Memory Card Slot for Scene-File Sharing (Not Included) Includes three different advanced focus assist functions 1/3-inch progressive 3- CCD imager system which substantially improves signal-to noise (S/N) ratio

From the Manufacturer The introduction of the HPX170 marks the next generation of Panasonic’s, full production quality, 4:2:2 1080/ 720/ SD P2HD Hand-Held camcorders. Based on the recently introduced HVX200A, this completely solid state P2 handheld offers some important feature enhancements as well as an industry leading 5 year warranty. (1 year + 4 additional years after registration). Unlike its brother, the AG-HVX200A a transitional camera perfectly matched for the customer that wants to continue using or delivering venerable DV tape. The HPX170 is for the customer that has fully embraced the tremendous advantages of P2’s file based workflow. The HPX170 is a P2 solid state only camera that includes many extra features and benefits. Starting with the front end of the camera, the HPX170 uses a newly-developed 1/3-inch progressive 3- CCD imager system which substantially improves signal-to noise (S/N) ratio, enhances low-light performance and prevents smear. Using exactly the same imager system as the HVX200A, this camera will produce similar images and is an ideal shooting partner. The HPX170 utilizes the highlyreputed Leica Dicomar 13x lens roughly the equivalent of 28 mm in 35mm still photography terms. It ranges from 3.9mm to 51mm with a filter diameter of 72mm. Adoption of this new wider lens and the use of P2 cards instead of dual P2 and tape as storage media have brought about the reduction of the body weight by 20% from the AGHVX200A, allowing more mobile HD shooting. The HPX170 weighs in at 4.2 lbs, just slightly more than a DVX100B. The AG-HPX170 has a number of new features that truly make it one of the most advanced camcorders in its price range. Many customer suggestions have been incorporated into this camera design along with state of the art technology like the new CCDs and lens assembly. Manufactured with a magnesium aluminum alloy just like the HVX200 series, the camera is highly durable and comes ready to work. It comes with a 16 GB P2 card and an updated book from Barry Green that references both the HPX170 as well as the HVX200 series of cameras. Important new features that really make this camera a next generation leader are HD/SDI (also allows for SD) output, improved LCD performance, and a useful waveform monitor and vectorscope function. The HPX170 also includes three different advanced focus assist functions, all of which respond a little differently so that you can choose the one that is perfect for the shooting scenario. Additionally, your customer can now enter metadata in the field, just like the HPX2000/3000 P2 cameras. Panasonic AG-HPX170 Highlights New Features (summary): All solid state -P2 cards - 2 Slots HD/SDI -- (including SD) 6 pin Firewire with locking connection. With this function, even if there are bright, halftone, and dark areas in a scene, their gradation will be maintained and blocked shadows, blown highlights, and color distortions will be minimized. The result is video with a visually wide dynamic range. Enhanced focus-assist functions The Center 2X Blow-up focus-assist function from the HVX200 is included. The histogram function featured on the HPX500 is now a part of this camera and you can choose Center Zoom, Histogram, or both. The third focus assist is a Focus Bar display. The bar grows longer as things become focused. The EVF DTL is more enhanced as well to allow pictures to be focused more easily by emphasizing the object contours on the EVF and LCD monitor screens. SDI (HD/SD switchable) output The AG-HPX170 comes equipped with an SDI (HD/SD) output terminal for serial digital transfer of uncompressed audio/visual data. It is compatible with digital broadcasting environments and allows for a secondary recording with another Panasonic digital recorder (P2HD/HD-D5/DVCPRO HD) or it can be incorporated into a small HD/SDI studio with our AV-HS400 Digital Switcher. Camera Processing and Technology There are three critical components working hand-in-hand to make the images from this camera. The CCDs benefit from the additional picture information offered by the spatial offset on the pixels. This allows the non-photosensitive areas of the CCD (the registers between the pixels) to add to the picture quality. New Progressive CCD Raises Sensitivity and Lowers Noise and Smear The new 1/3-inch 16:9 progressive CCD on the AG-HPX170 further raises image quality. It combines a significantly improved S/N ratio and better low-light performance than previous models. Backed by a highperformance digital signal processor, the CCD brings higher quality to HD images to meet the demands of broadcasters and high-end video producers. High-Resolution Native Progressive 1080/60p Scan Progressive to interlace conversion, cross conversion and down conversion all start with the 1080p/60 scan. That initial 1080p progressive scan signal coming off of the CCDs offers the highest level of vertical resolution possible at this level of camera. Keep in mind that the camera does not record this signal but uses it as a basis for all captures. The result is an HD or SD recording with a level of image quality that cannot be matched by electronically processed scans (pixel for pixel). DSP with 14-Bit A/D Conversion and 19-Bit Processing The digital signal processor developed for the AG-HPX170’s 1080/60p video signals uses 14-bit A/D conversion and 19-bit inner processing to attain unprecedented accuracy in color and detail. The DSP performs a variety of adjustments, including eight types of gamma settings, for each of the R, G and B channels. It also converts the signals to HD or SD format. With a performance equivalent to the processors used in many higher-end HD cameras, this DSP delivers beautiful images in all video formats. Manual Focus Assist Manual Focus Assist There is a dynamic new feature on this camera that will make it really interesting to any shooter that has to run and gun their images. The two images on the right are indicating the rotation required for the focus ring under the Standard Mode, which you would use if you were doing production and wanted to use a Focus Puller to do a rack focus on the subjects at hand. This represents about 300 degrees. The second figure, is called Manual Focus Assist, and it indicates a much shorter rotation, which equates to getting to the focus point much more quickly. Keep in mind the rotation on a Broadcast lens is about 120 degrees. What is really interesting is that when you start to get close, the camera sees the PEAK and carries out the tail end of the focus, then goes back to no auto-focus. This should be a function that you show every customer that shoots news for a living. MetaData input and management A significant part of file-based workflow is the metadata portion of the footage. IT is what makes it easy to find thing later. It also allows the field personnel to communicate with the editorial staff. The correct spelling of the interviewee’s name can be input on the clip within the body of the camera itself. The only other cameras that allow this functionality are the larger AJHPX2000 and up. NTSC/PAL Upgradeable This camera can be upgraded for International capability once you have registered for the 5 year warranty. Panasonic Service will only upgrade units that are owned by US customers at a US address. End-users must initiate the request for Panasonic to do the upgrade and Panasonic resale partners are not eligible for this upgrade. Once you have received the Warranty Registration, you will need to send an email to pbtscservice@us.panasonic.com. Superb Prosumer Camcorder By Tool Fan Hess Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3HHTZIENGZRNQ I absolutely love working with this camcorder. Having searched a long time for a modestly priced HD camcorder that had the same manual features I have grown accustomed to on my DSLR, I was delighted to find the HPX 170, as it provides a well organized set of controls at a price point much lower than that of similar cameras in its class. The HPX 170 and its P2 workflow work seamlessly with my MacBook Pro running Final Cut. The camera itself is a solid build, and feels great to work with on long shoots. The onboard mic is nothing spectacular, but it is better than most I have encountered. The built in lens provides spectacular depth of field, and a particularly good wide angle field of view. For lovers of low depth of field, a 35mm adaptor is still probably a must, however as you can see in the video, the camera lens gets pretty good low DoF results on its own, when zoomed in all the way at 51mm. All in all, at this price level, the HPX 170 is pretty hard to beat, given its full manual controls and well managed P2 workflow. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great camera for the up and coming Videographer By Klay M. Abele Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2GEJ941FVNCRF I'm a film student and needed something that was relatively inexpensive and came with the most features. The waveform monitor is such a plus for this camera. The focus assist is also another great feature that really helps getting the maximum focus. This camera truly has some outstanding features from its competitors. The ability to change the frame rate, deleting clips in camera (P2 work flow), light weight for hand held glidecams, great image quality, and many, many more. I do pretty much any type of video work, form weddings, to music videos, to short films. This camera will get you what you want. There is however a learning curve if you are just now jumping into prosumer cameras. Although the camera does come with an outstanding guide from Barry Green. You will not regret your decision if you get this camera. 15 of 20 people found the following review helpful. I Love this Camera By Stacey Cochran Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R247XGN4ZTTA4 I bought this camera as part of a technology grant funded by my publisher in order to film interviews. I have only had it for one week, but I love this camera so far. The learning curve has been incredibly fast, and I'm posting a short video I shot today with this camera as a sample of what I've filmed with the Panasonic HPX170. I love the wide-angle lens. I've never worked with a camera with a lens like this, and so I'm quickly learning about how to use depth of field in some shots. I love the easy-to-change record settings. It records in about 20 different modes, everything from HD 1080i-60i to DVC Pro 50 to plain DV. I love that it has auto-focus and manual focus (and iris) options. I like how easy it has been to upload my videos to Final Cut Pro, which I also have only owned for about a week. Altogether, I have no complaints with this camera after one week's usage. I do wish that additional P2 Cards weren't so expensive. My HPX170 came with a single 16GB card, but I will probably invest in a 64GB card when they come out later this year. The 16GB card records only 17 minutes in HD. The HPX170 does have two P2 card slots, so you could have two 64GB cards (128GB), which would record for over two hours in HD. This would be a very sweet set-up with two 64GB cards. See all 3 customer reviews...

Manufacturer Description Manufacturer Description HD plus HDD plus 3CCD -- the advantages add up. The HD Everio GZ-HD3 offers HD (High-Definition) recording with 1440 x 1080i resolution. These HD pictures are extremely fine and detailed, containing 4.5 times the visual information of conventional SD (Standard Definition) pictures. With a 60GB built-in hard disk drive you can record up to seven hours of HD video (in SP mode), plus you get two additional recording modes to select according to your requirements. JVC GZ-HD3 Highlights Three 1/5-inch progressive-scan CCDs with Pixel Shift technology For bright, realistic colors the HD Everio uses three 1/5-inch CCDs -- one each for red, green and blue. Naturally, by having dedicated CCDs for each primary color, the camera is able to gather the maximum visual information which leads to more realistic color reproduction and presence. Using Pixel Shift Technology, the Red and Blue pixel locations are shifted relative to Green, allowing the sampled color information to be quadrupled through interpolation. Konica Minolta HD lens The HD lens of the GZ-HD3 was developed by camera specialist, Konica Minolta, to ensure that the lens performance was optimized for use with our 3CCD image sensor and MPEG-2 recording technology. The result is an extremely detailed picture with clear contrast and strong presence throughout the image -- the type of stable and consistent performance that becomes essential when recording images at HD specifications. The lens structure also contributes to the miniaturization of the camera. HD Gigabrid Engine for optimum HD images Developed specifically for HD Everio, this image processing engine processes the CCD images as a progressive scan signal. This provides the maximum image information to work with, regardless of the actual recording mode that is used. Also integrated into the chip are five digital noise reduction technologies that collaborate to improve vertical resolution by about 30 percent from previous JVC Standard Definition camcorders. It's at the heart of JVC's HD recording system. Built-in 60GB HDD for 7 hours of HD recording In addition to an SP mode that allows up to about seven hours of HD recording, the GZ-HD3 is also equipped with an XP mode that records at a higher bit rate for those extra special scenes. There’s also a 1440CBR mode, which is convenient for those who wish to edit using HDV-compatible software. Hybrid design with SD/SDHC memory card In addition to a built-in 60GB hard disk drive, the GZ-HD3 also has a slot for SD/SDHC memory card so you can store videos (SP mode only) and stills on this commonly available memory card. Compact body, simple controls To make it easy to take the GZ-HD3 anywhere, the palm-sized camcorder features a lightweight, compact body 27 percent smaller than the GZ-HD7, and weighing a mere 1.5 lbs. It also offers point-and-shoot simplicity so no crucial scenes are missed, plus manual controls for more ambitious users. Focus Assist identifies out-of-focus areas of the image Variety of shooting assist functions Focus Assist function Focus Assist outlines in-focus image contours in color so you can easily tell which parts of the image are in or out of focus. By wildcatgoal EASY TO USE: If you spend 10-minutes fooling around with the menu and all the buttons, you get the hang of it really quick. I will probably never use the advanced manual functions, but from the look of it manual function menus they seem easy to operate. I would, for this price, expect that there'd be a manual focus ring rather than a screen-based tool for manual focus. The buttons that you use the most like the zoom control, record button, and snapshot button, are in the right places. The camera overall is heavier than a SD camera but not bad at all. It feels sturdy and the battery doesn't add noticable heft to the device. Connecting to the TV with an HDMI cable is easy because it uses a real, full-size HDMI port and automatically activates it when you plug it in. This might be common to all camcorders, but you can use an HDMI hi-def TV as a huge viewfinder if you want.. which potentially could be useful. IMAGE CLARITY: This is an HD camera, so naturally I expect the image quality to be very, very good. It is crisp but I feel as if it is a little bit grainy, especially in low light. I was not impressed by it at all and I'm highly considering returning it. The 3CCD system is supposed to reproduce the best colors but I felt as if reds and blues were muted - of course I'm no color theory-trained person. The first few times I used this were during a snow storm to record the beating we were getting here in Minneapolis and at an ice-skating rink. Not the two biggest color-rich environments but still I saw colors and details that the camera screen didn't see and to me, for an HD 3CCD camera, I feel it should have. ZOOM & FOCUS: The optical zoom operates at the right speed I'd say. The camera focuses fairly quickly, though I question why it doesn't go any faster The big problem is, when you get passed approx. 6x it starts to lose its ability to focus up-close. So say you are sitting at your desk that is against a wall and you want to zoon in on the face of the person in the artwork on that wall. You zoom, zoom, zoom all the way to 10x which gets you close enough to fill the entire screen with the person's little face in the artwork. But it's blurry. The camera actually automatically backs-out the zoom until it is able to focus. I find that ridiculous. I zoomed in that far because I wanted to see the face of the person in the artwork fill the entire screen from the distance at which I was holding the camera. If you move the camera closer manually, it does a better job but is still obviously limited. I was dissapointed here. LOW LIGHT: I'm not expecting greatness in low light. I realize that top movie cameras even need lighting to capture people properly at light. But while at the ice skating rink, they turned the lights down low for that romantic feel (I suppose) and all of a sudden everyone's face disappeared and colors significantly reduced It wasn't dark, it was amber-like; there was actually quite a bit of light remaining. I tried the night-mode which immediately increased the camera's ability to see light to where I think it should have been able to do w/out a setting but it became choppy and lost all use - the shutter speed slowed. Why in the world would I want the shutter speed to slow so much that the filming looks like I'm making a slasher movie - all choppy and traily. The only use of it is to plant the camera on a tripod and make people walk very slowly. It doesn't have that green-looking night-vision mode like Sonys do, which, even though its not in prestine color, allows you to see things happening at night, which is the point. The only time it does "well" at night is when there is a light bulb in the area and it picks up the light well from that for a certain distance away from the light source Then it just sort of reverts back to.
